Singlet oxygen generation capacity of SF-I was evaluated chemically, and up to 45% singlet oxygen quantum yield was reported in aqueous solutions. SF-I was further tested in triple negative breast (MDA MB-231) and colon (HCT-116) cancer cell lines, which are known to have limited chemotherapy options as well as very poor prognosis. SF-I induced efficient singlet oxygen generation and consequent photocytotoxicity in both cell lines upon light irradiation with a negligible dark toxicity while allowing cell imaging at the same time. SF-I marks the first ever example of a silicon xanthene-based photosensitizer and holds a lot of promise as a small-molecule-based theranostic scaffold.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Middle East Tech Univ, Dept Chem, TR-06800 Ankara, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Elmazoglu, Zubeyir</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Middle East Tech Univ, Dept Chem, TR-06800 Ankara, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Karaman, Osman</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Koc Univ, Dept Chem, TR-34450 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Gunduz, Hande</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Middle East Tech Univ, Dept Chem, TR-06800 Ankara, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Gunbas, Gorkem</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Kolemen, Safacan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Koc Univ, Dept Chem, TR-34450 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Cetin, Sultan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2021-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="005">20221007074905.0</controlfield> <datafield tag="909" ind1="C" ind2="O"> <subfield code="o">oai:aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr:230154</subfield> <subfield code="p">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="z">md5:d0c3f3f278620b7d1c49e810a27bf608</subfield> <subfield code="s">248</subfield> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/230154/files/bib-04dc8a52-0c12-43f3-aceb-d2b63bdb02ee.txt</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.1021/acsmedchemlett.1c00018</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
