"description": "
Science identity helps explain the attitude students have towards
\nscience, assessing how and why they choose to engage with it
\nboth inside and outside of school. Over time, each student
\ndevelops an identity as a scientist based upon perceptions held
\nby themselves and others. Students’ science identity may vary
\ndepending on their gender, educational opportunities, and
\nepistemological beliefs. For this reason, the study investigated
\nthe predictors of primary school students’ science identity. A total
\nof 775 primary school students aged 9–12 from the Turkish
\nsample participated in the research. Structural equation
\nmodelling was used to examine the predictors of science identity.
\nFindings showed that science identity is related to
\nepistemological beliefs, science competence, and optional science
\nlearning experiences. Accordingly, the models used to explain
\nscience identity can be expanded with belief, competence, and
\nexperience variables. The current study has contributed to the
\nunderstanding of the science identity in primary school students
\nand has provided insights into the science identity of children in
\nTurkey as an Eastern society.
",
