Discoverability and Reuse

  • Materials such as publications, datasets, and software published on Aperta are subject to open licenses like Creative Commons, and metadata is subject to Creative Commons Zero license, so metadata and materials on Aperta can be harvested by other systems without license issues.

  • Aperta supports harvesting of metadata in Dublin Core, MARCXML and Datacite metadata formats via OAI-PMH protocol. Additionally, community-based harvesting is available.

  • Aperta has been included in resource directories such as Re3data, Harman, and OpenDOAR.

  • Aperta provides DOI for datasets that do not already have a DOI.

  • Aperta contributes to the accessibility of datasets by sharing metadata about records it assigns DOIs to with Datacite. Aperta's metadata is compliant with the minimum and recommended requirements of DataCite's metadata schema with some additional enrichments.

  • Aperta uses Schema.org metadata on record detail pages for search engines and smart harvesting tools.

  • Aperta allows establishing semantic connections between different types of resources such as publications, datasets and software. Semantic connections can also be established with external sources.

  • In addition to the OAI-PMH protocol, Aperta provides REST API for integration with other systems and for researchers' text/data mining activities. It supports bulk file and record upload operations via REST API.
