The study was conducted as batch and continuous flow experiments. The batch systems consist of 12 pairs of serial connected tanks each with a surface area of 1m(2). Each set was filled with sewage once a day and wastewater was recycled periodically between the two tanks by the pump. Each pair of tank was filled with material such as gravel, peat and perlite. Seven of them were vegetated by Phragmites, Cyperus, Juncus, Iris, Lolium, Canna and Paspalum. The other five were not seeded with plants. Iris for COD, by Canna for nitrogen removal, obtained the best performances. The continuous flow experimental system consists of two serial connected tanks that settled up with sand and gravel as filler and Cyperus as treatment media. Wastewater is recycled periodically upward and downward between the two tanks. The treatment performance data have been collected for three years (2003-2005), in addition to our previously published study. The average COD removal efficiency of 88% was observed at 120 g COD/m(2) day average loading conditions.", "headline": "Cycled wetland reflooding for enhanced removal efficiency", "identifier": 96209, "image": "https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr/static/img/logo/aperta_logo_with_icon.svg", "license": "http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by", "name": "Cycled wetland reflooding for enhanced removal efficiency", "url": "https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr/record/96209" }
