Remarkably, this ancient catabolic machinery has been co-opted to eliminate invading pathogens in a variety of ways. Plant autophagy not only mediates selective destruction of viruses but also limits infection by extracellular bacterial and filamentous pathogens. The emerging paradigm is that autophagy adaptors, responsible for selective cargo sorting, have been appointed to counteract pathogen infection, while adapted pathogens have evolved to subvert the immune functions of the autophagic machinery. In this review, we discuss recent findings that contribute to understanding the role of autophagy in plant immunity and highlight key questions to address in the field moving forward.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Imperial Coll London, Dept Life Sci, London, England</subfield> <subfield code="a">Savage, Zachary</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Imperial Coll London, Dept Life Sci, London, England</subfield> <subfield code="a">Tumtas, Yasin</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Imperial Coll London, Dept Life Sci, London, England</subfield> <subfield code="a">Bozkurt, Tolga</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Imperial Coll London, Dept Life Sci, London, England</subfield> <subfield code="a">Leary, Alexandre Y.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2019-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="005">20210316025445.0</controlfield> <datafield tag="909" ind1="C" ind2="O"> <subfield code="o">oai:zenodo.org:68923</subfield> <subfield code="p">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="z">md5:6650dd8e3e20fce5bb9f1da8dcf3048e</subfield> <subfield code="s">169</subfield> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/68923/files/bib-b6cc0421-f991-47ea-8369-23f0abb1a11a.txt</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.1016/j.pbi.2019.07.002</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
