On the other hand, prostaglandin (PG)E-2 is involved in vascular wall remodeling by regulating matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activities. We tested the hypothesis that endogenous H2S may modulate PGE(2), MMP-1 activity and endogenous tissue inhibitors of MMPs (TIMP-1/-2). This regulatory pathway could be involved in thinning of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and thickening of saphenous vein (SV) varicosities. The expression of the enzyme responsible for H2S synthesis, cystathionine-gamma-lyase (CSE) and its activity, were significantly higher in varicose vein as compared to SV. On the contrary, the endogenous H2S level and CSE expression were lower in AAA as compared to healthy aorta (HA). Endogenous H2S was responsible for inhibition of PGE(2) synthesis mostly in varicose veins and HA. A similar effect was observed with exogenous H2S and consequently decreasing active MMP-1/TIMP ratios in SV and varicose veins. In contrast, in AAA, higher levels of PGE(2) and active MMP-1/TIMP ratios were found versus HA. These findings suggest that differences in H2S content in AAA and varicose veins modulate endogenous PGE(2) production and consequently the MMP/TIMP ratio. This mechanism may be crucial in vascular wall remodeling observed in different vascular pathologies (aneurysm, varicosities, atherosclerosis and pulmonary hypertension).</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Ozen, Gulsev</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">INSERM, U1148, F-75018 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Deschildre, Catherine</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">INSERM, U1148, F-75018 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Amgoud, Yasmine</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">INSERM, U1148, F-75018 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Boubaya, Lilia</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Univ Paris Diderot, Sorbonne Paris Cite, AP HP CHU X Bichat, Dept Anesthesia & Intens Care,UMR S1148, F-75018 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Gorenne, Isabelle</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Benyahia, Chabha</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Univ Paris 05, CNRS, UMR 8601, LCBPT,Sorbonne Paris Cite, F-75006 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Roger, Thomas</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Leseche, Guy</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Univ Paris 05, CNRS, UMR 8601, LCBPT,Sorbonne Paris Cite, F-75006 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Galardon, Erwan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ, Fac Pharm, Dept Pharmacol, Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Topal, Gokce</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">INSERM, U1148, F-75018 Paris, France</subfield> <subfield code="a">Jacob, Marie-Paule</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Longrois, Dan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Norel, Xavier</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Gomez, Ingrid</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2016-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="005">20210315233840.0</controlfield> <datafield tag="909" ind1="C" ind2="O"> <subfield code="o">oai:zenodo.org:54531</subfield> <subfield code="p">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="z">md5:a325e5710c4570b188713ca41848b1f0</subfield> <subfield code="s">298</subfield> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/54531/files/bib-584dd3e4-9697-4971-b7bc-4d792443f83d.txt</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.1371/journal.pone.0158421</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
