Student teachers (N=728) assessed their active learning experiences and the professional competences they achieved during TE. Self-regulated and collaborative learning provided the theoretical framework for the active learning measurements. The professional competences included a wide range of teacher responsibilities in schools and society. The data were collected by a survey. A quantitative analysis utilising a regression analysis approach provided strong evidence that active learning has an impact on professional competences. A qualitative analysis further revealed that active knowledge creation with high engagement in learning tasks and a collaborative learning culture were important modes of active learning. While the study focused on two different TE systems, active learning was important in student teachers' professional development in both contexts.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="001">53025</controlfield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="245" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Active learning promoting student teachers' professional competences in Finland and Turkey</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2016-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Univ Helsinki, Inst Behav Sci, Helsinki, Finland</subfield> <subfield code="a">Nevgi, Anne</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Pamukkale Univ, Dept Geog, Denizli, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Aksit, Fisun</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/53025/files/bib-61a1ee7c-23c0-4447-b1a2-30d09567ee30.txt</subfield> <subfield code="s">187</subfield> <subfield code="z">md5:1284d53ba8beb59338130d425ac6f2dc</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.1080/02619768.2016.1212835</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
