All catalysts have been prepared by the sol-gel citrate method where citric acid was used as a complexing agent. Alumina and halloysite were used as catalyst supports due to their high surface areas. The prepared samples were structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements and by scanning electron microscopy techniques. X-ray diffraction results for the catalysts were as follows: Fe2O3/Y2O3/Al2O3 (Al3Fe2O12Y3) and Fe2O3/Y2O3/Halloysite (Al2Fe3O12Y3, O-2 Si, Al4:52O9:74Si1:48). Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surfaces were in the range of 23-31 m(2)/g for Fe2O3/Y2O3/Al2O3 and 1-9 m(2)/g for Fe2O3/Y2O3/Halloysite.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Yildiz Tech Univ, Chem Engn Dept, TR-34210 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Figen, H.
