We implemented five distinct algorithms: K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Trees, Random Forests, LightGBM, and XGBoost. The results reveal that these models can accurately classify tool conditions as &quot;worn&quot; or &quot;unworn,&quot; with LightGBM and XGBoost showing solid performance. Notably, an ensemble approach using a soft voting classifier combining KNN, Random Forest, and LightGBM achieved an accuracy of 0.9968 and a ROC AUC of 0.9998. This research underscores the potential of machine learning to transform traditional tool management practices, enabling proactive maintenance strategies that can significantly improve machining efficiency and product quality. Future work may explore integrating real-time data for further enhancements in predictive accuracy.</p></subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="773" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="n">doi</subfield> <subfield code="a">10.48623/aperta.274175</subfield> <subfield code="i">isVersionOf</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">tool wear prediction</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">machine learning</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">ensemble learning</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="001">274176</controlfield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> <subfield code="b">conferencepaper</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="711" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="g">UTIS 2024</subfield> <subfield code="c">Antalya, Türkiye</subfield> <subfield code="a">12th International Congress on Machining</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="245" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Comparative Study of Machine Learning and Ensemble Learning Approach on Tool Wear Classification</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2024-11-01</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">Kurban, Rifat</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/274176/files/rk_maa_paper_utis2024.pdf</subfield> <subfield code="s">691537</subfield> <subfield code="z">md5:29f5ab600e8a21b3740a1930dfc55f40</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.48623/aperta.274176</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
