The Tuzla Fault, which lies between the town of Menderes and Cape Doganbey, is one of the major seismic threats in western Turkey due to its seismic potential to generate a major earthquake (M 6, near Doganbey Cape in 1992) and proximity to the city of Izmir which sustained damage due to the earthquake that occurred in the Aegean Sea on October 30th, 2020. In order to estimate strain rates and seismic potential around the Tuzla Fault, five global positioning system (CPS) surveys were carried out between 2009 and 2012. Estimated GPS velocities in the study area exceed 20 mm/year, which is in line with previous studies. We use two different approaches to calculate the strain accumulation on and around the Tuzla Fault. The first method adopts forming triangles using the GPS sites as corners and calculating strain rates within those triangles. The second method adopts a bicubic interpolation approach described by Holt and Haines, 1993. Maximum values of strain accumulation were found to reach up to 200 nanostrain/year.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Bogazici Univ, Kandilli Observ & Earthquake Res Inst KOERI, Dept Geodesy, Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Ozener, Haluk</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Bogazici Univ, Kandilli Observ & Earthquake Res Inst KOERI, Dept Geodesy, Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Havazli, Emre</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2021-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="005">20221007100012.0</controlfield> <datafield tag="909" ind1="C" ind2="O"> <subfield code="o">oai:aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr:237654</subfield> <subfield code="p">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="z">md5:020e8991b3ba7b373cc173376201e9b7</subfield> <subfield code="s">156</subfield> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/237654/files/bib-60cafa4b-b56f-49c0-8cec-6f69e2f2c0d4.txt</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.3906/yer-2009-9</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
