Studies reported Ni as the most common allergen diagnosed in the serial patch test. The main purpose of our study was to determine the concentration of Ni and other elements in the urine samples of individuals with Ni-sensitivity and to determine the effect of lifestyle habits on these variables. This study was conducted with 388 participants; additionally, both Ni patch test and inorganic analysis (for 24 elements) method in urine with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were applied to all participants. Ninety-two (23.7%) of the participants were found to have nickel sensitivity with a mean urine concentration of 4.475 mu g/g creatinine (median=4.260; SD=2.527). The urine nickel concentration was significantly different between female and male participants (p =0.001). We found a significant correlation between Ni and other metals alongside various element pairs. The mean urine Ni concentration of the individuals with a positive Ni sensitivity test result was not different from that of the participants without Ni sensitivity (4.475 vs 4.256 mu g/g creatinine, respectively; p = 0.068). The high accuracy, recovery, and repeatability data obtained from the analyses indicate that this study is efficient and appropriate for the quantitative determination of nickel and other elements in urine samples. Ni-containing objects and Ni-rich foods should be of concern for individuals with hypersensitivity reactions to the element.</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"> <subfield code="2">opendefinition.org</subfield> <subfield code="a">cc-by</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Demiroglu Bilim Univ, Dept Med Training & Informat, TR-34394 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Vehid, Hayriye</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ Cerrahpasa, Inst Forens Sci & Legal Med, Dept Sci, TR-34500 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Semen, Sevcan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ Cerrahpasa, Cerrahpasa Med Fac, Dept Dermatol & Venerol, TR-34098 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Celik, Ugur</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ Cerrahpasa, Inst Forens Sci & Legal Med, Dept Sci, TR-34500 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Yayla, Murat</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="700" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ Cerrahpasa, Cerrahpasa Med Fac, Dept Dermatol & Venerol, TR-34098 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Engin, Burhan</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="b">article</subfield> <subfield code="a">publication</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="542" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="l">open</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="100" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">Istanbul Univ Cerrahpasa, Inst Forens Sci & Legal Med, Dept Sci, TR-34500 Istanbul, Turkey</subfield> <subfield code="a">Mercan, Selda</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="260" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="c">2022-01-01</subfield> </datafield> <controlfield tag="005">20221007090658.0</controlfield> <datafield tag="909" ind1="C" ind2="O"> <subfield code="o">oai:aperta.ulakbim.gov.tr:234744</subfield> <subfield code="p">user-tubitak-destekli-proje-yayinlari</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2=" "> <subfield code="z">md5:deaa6c37aeb445275c1322a2bf06a8cd</subfield> <subfield code="s">271</subfield> <subfield code="u">https://aperta.ulakbim.gov.trrecord/234744/files/bib-67cb728a-2a54-451a-847b-35afc2a716c2.txt</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="u">http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/cc-by</subfield> <subfield code="a">Creative Commons Attribution</subfield> </datafield> <datafield tag="024" ind1=" " ind2=" "> <subfield code="a">10.1007/s12011-021-02636-y</subfield> <subfield code="2">doi</subfield> </datafield> </record>
