INDUCED RESISTANCE TO FUSARIUM WILT IN CARNATION WITH MIXTURE OF MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI

   Atakan, Aydin; Ozkaya, Hulya Ozgonen

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) has played an important role in overcoming biotic and abiotic stress factors of plants. Beneficial associations between AMF and plants bring about extraordinary contributions to biotic stress management created by a pathogen, causing changes in plant physiology. In this study, a pot experiment was performed to determine the interactions between mixture of mycorrhizal fungi (MMF) and Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. dianthi (Fod) and subsequent effects on plant growth, disease severity and changings in some biochemical resistance parameters in susceptible and resistant carnation cultivars were investigated under climate chamber conditions. The findings indicated that colonization of carnation plants (susceptible cv. Picasso and resistant cv. Hornett) with AMF considerably improved plant growth and decreased disease severity. Moreover, for both cultivars, the amount of total phenolic compounds were considerably higher in plants co-inoculated with AMF and Fod compared to other treatments. Apart from these, the inoculation of plants with AMF significantly increased activities of defence-related enzymes (peroxidase (POD) and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL)) and total antioxidant status in the presence or absence of the pathogeny
