Elucidating Flow Behavior in Refrigerant Flow Distributors With Computational Simulations

In order to keep pressure drops at lower levels and to maintain uniform refrigerant distribution in evaporators flow behavior of refrigerants in the distributors at the entrance of evaporators should be elucidated. Aim of this work to identify two phase flow in the distributor with multiple channels which is used to feed evaporator. Velocity, void fraction, and total pressure are calculated and then compared to data obtained from the experimental facility. Two-phase flow regimes in the distributor are mapped. Effect of the two-phase flow at the outlet of the distribution is explored.
