Description

Membrane reactors (MRs) are often used to carry out equilibrium limited reaction. In fact, the thermodynamic equilibrium is a strong constrain for a traditional systems. Even with very active catalysts, traditional reactors (TRs) cannot give conversions higher than the one allowed by the thermodynamic equilibrium. On the contrary, the MRs are able to shift the equilibrium of a traditional system thanks to the removal of at least one reaction product during the reaction. In this chapter, we will investigate and study the dynamic equilibrium of a MR in order to find the maximum conversion achievable in a membrane reactor.
