The Investigation of Mechanical Behavior of CaCO3 in Polyethylenes

Description

The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanical behavior of calcium carbonate in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) under uniaxial tension loading. The specimens are prepared to consist of 5%, 10% and 20% calcium carbonate in HDPE. The tests are conducted in two steps. Firstly, loading and unloading tensile tests are performed at E-3 1/s strain rates to characterize the mechanical behavior. Secondly, the short time creep behavior of materials is determined through tensile tests at different stress levels. As a result of the study, the effects on short time creep behavior of the stress level and calcium carbonate ratios of specimens were determined. The strain levels were discovered to increase 6 times when stress levels doubled. Additionally, the percentage of strain drop value was increased by about 35%.
