Description

In this study, energy consumption of diamond saw blade, which is used for cutting natural stones, was examined as experimental. During the experiments, computer-controlled block cutting machine was used. During the cutting process, down cutting was used as the cutting mode, granite (Blue Pearl) was used as the natural stone and water was preferred as the cutting liquid. Three different cutting parameters such as depth of cut, circular velocity and cutting speed were chosen for the cutting experiments. Energy analyzer was used for determination of power consumption in the cutting experiments while three-directional dynamometer (EST) was used for determination of cutting forces. Specific energy values were obtained through an analytical method by using the data received from the energy analyzer and dynamometer. According to this study, power consumption increased as cutting parameters increased, but specific energy values decreased. The most important parameter for this rise was considered to be depth of cut. It can be said that a more inefficient cutting occurs with the specific energy increase.
