Description

In low-frequency electromagnetic applications, loop antennas of different configurations are unique inductive sensors. A small loop antenna can be generally modelled by its equivalent magnetic dipole. The magnetic dipole has a well-known analytical solution of its dipole radiation. However, numerical solution of the magnetic dipole fields is very rare in literature. In this study, the radiation of the magnetic dipole is numerically investigated by the QS-FDTD method. Three-dimensional radiation pattern of the magnetic dipole is calculated and verified with the analytical solution. The accuracy of the three-dimensional QS-FDTD method in a lossy medium is clearly shown over the magnetic dipole problem.
