Description

In this study, a metal finishing factory that is one of the biggest white-goods manufacturers in Turkey is investigated in terms of wastewater reuse. Process and pollution profiles of the factory manufacturing cookers indicate that three wastewater generating processes namely enamel coating, paint and styrofoam processes have potential for wastewater reuse applications. Relatively clean segregated wastewater streams (reusable wastewaters) are separately collected. After stream segregation, the reusable wastewater generation capacity of paint, enamel and styrofoam processes are assessed to be 126, 94 and 74 m(3)/day, respectively. The reusable wastewater fraction has an approximate amount of 340 m(3)/day that accounts for 68% of the total wastewaters generated from the processes. Application of membrane separation will be adequate to obtain process water from segregated paint wastewaters. Segregated enamel wastewaters must be subjected to neutralization, organic carbon removal and membrane processes prior to be reused in processes. Neutralization followed by membrane separation should be prescribed for the reusable styrofoam effluents to get required process water criteria.
