Description

Fluorescent conducting polymers have been an issue of interest in a wide range of research area, including sensors, clean energy technologies and biological detection. The design and synthesis of fluorescent conjugated polymers are particular interest depending on their both electrochemical and optical properties. In this study, a novel rhodamine based on (9,9 a-dihydro-4aH-carbazol-2-yl 2-(3,6-bis(diethyl amino)-9H-xanthen-9-yl) benzoate (RDC) and it's polymer (PRDC) was successfully synthesized and characterized. Electrochemical, surface morphology and optical properties of PRDC were investigated. The PRDC film revealed electrochromic feature (gray and orange colors) under redox potential, it had good optic contrast (44% at 700 nm), rapidly switching time (1.5 s) and good fluorescent surface (Ex: 585 nm Em: 613 nm). These satisfactory results implied that the PRDC polymer film is good candidate for fluorescent sensing platform, displays and other opto-electronic applications.
