Description
This paper assesses the transient operation of a 11kV distribution network-cell (DNC) consisting of different type and size of loads and distributed (mainly renewable) generators. The generators considered include gas turbine driven synchronous generators (SG), doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and fixed speed induction generator (FSIG) based wind plants and converter-connected power generators (CCG) (e.g. photovoltaics (PV), fuel cells, etc.). After a brief discussion of the network components and individual generator responses, the DNC performance is assessed following different system disturbances. Various DNC loading conditions, load type and compositions and a diverse range of generation scenarios are considered. Extensive results of simulations are presented and conclusions drawn from a set of 480 case studies comprising 10 generation scenarios, 4 load types, 6 load sizes and two different fault locations. Based on the results, the paper tries to establish a range of transient operation for the DNC.
