Description

The most commonly observed adverse effects of blasting operations are air shock and ground vibrations. The dominant frequency of ground vibrations is as important as the ground vibration amplitude itself not only for structural safety but also for human disturbance. It is widely used as a factor of liability for the damage of structures in the vibration standards. In this paper several methods, namely the short time Fourier transform, power spectral density and continuous wavelet transform techniques, are compared in terms of their performance to predict the dominant frequency of blast induced ground vibrations from a production blasting conducted at an open pit metal mine in Turkey.
