Impact of Self-Configuration on Handover Performance in Green Cellular Networks
- 1. Istanbul Tech Univ, Informat Inst, Istanbul, Turkey
Description
In this paper, the role of handover parameters in improving the energy efficiency of cellular networks is analyzed, and the negative effects of handover failure (HOF) and pingpong (PP) rate are investigated. Considering the energy consumption constraint of green cellular networks, a new algorithm that considers the proposed performance indicator for the current network status is developed to provide energy efficiency. The network performance of the proposed algorithm is explored in terms of real vehicular traffic data and state-of-the-art specifications of eNodeBs. Computer simulations demonstrate that handover performance (HP) of the network can significantly be improved through the proposed algorithm, where power consumption is also considered as part of the decision besides the HOF and PP rate.
