LOVE WAVES IN A HETEROGENOUS ELASTIC LAYERED HALF SPACE WITH IRREGULAR SURFACES

  • 1. Istanbul Tech Univ, Dept Math, Istanbul, Turkiye

Description

This study examines the propagation of Love waves in a semi-infinite medium overlaid by a layer composed of distinct elastic, heterogeneous materials. The layer exhibits nonuniform thickness due to variations in both the free and interface surfaces along the wave propagation direction. The constituent materials are assumed to be isotropic, vertically heterogeneous, and governed by different hyperelastic properties. Traction-free conditions are imposed on the free surface, and continuity of displacement and stress is maintained at the interface. The governing equations and boundary conditions are derived, and an asymptotic perturbation method is applied to obtain a uniformly valid solution for the wave amplitude. A dispersion relation is established, and the effect of surface irregularities and material heterogeneity on wave propagation is systematically analyzed.
