Description

Mu & gbreve;la is one of the major cities in T & uuml;rkiye, requiring a planned transition from its coal-centered economy to a greener one. This paper aims to calculate the negative externalities associated with health outcomes due to pollutants emitted from lignite thermal plants in Mu & gbreve;la. The methodology used in this study draws from frequently used and generally accepted techniques utilized in previous studies. Using the Impact Pathway Approach, the cost calculation in this paper contributes to the field by incorporating a thorough impact analysis. We estimate the annual cost to be in the interval of 502 million to 770 million Euros. The findings of this study underline the urgency and significance of Mu & gbreve;la's economic transition for the local population's welfare and the financial burden that can be avoided in the case of a coal exit.
