Description

Aims: The primary goal of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of the alkalotolerant strain, designated BHN1 Pseudomonas migulae with a remarkable capacity for degrading 2,2-dichloropropionic acid (2,2-DCP) as the sole carbon source. Methodology and results: The identification process relied on BiologTM GEN III test panel and 16S rRNA sequencing. Strain BHN1 of P. migulae exhibited robust growth under alkaline conditions, with a pH range spanning from 7 to 14, and when supplemented with 2,2-DCP at varied concentrations between 20 mM and 60 mM. Notably, BHN1 displayed optimal growth in the presence of 20 mM 2,2-DCP at pH 9, with a calculated cell doubling time of 21.87 h. However, it exhibited a complete loss of growth capability when exposed to 60 mM 2,2-DCP. Conclusion, significance and impact of study: The BHN1 strain opens up promising avenues in broader environmental remediation efforts to mitigate the harm of environmental pollutants, thereby reducing the harm to the environment and human health.
