Description

This article addresses a paradox about a political movement in the late Ottoman period, which left a distinctive political legacy behind. The study quantitatively analyzes the data collected from two leading newspapers of the British press between 1908 and 1914 (N = 151) to present empirical evidence concerning the change in the portrayal of the movement. Later, the data were triangulated with qualitative findings to provide insight and confirmability. The research findings shed light on the drastic policy and discourse changes within one of the most tumultuous periods and offer a historical account of the efforts for equal citizenship in today's most volatile regions. Besides, the study findings support the media conformity approach and give a detailed analysis of the usage of the press as an instrument of foreign policy.
