Description
The current study presents and discusses the findings of a comprehensive study based on the fineness of the structural, thermal and in vitro biological behavior of both boron (B), magnesium (Mg) and vanadium (V) added (SiO2-Na2O-CaO-P2O5-B2O3-MgO-V2O5) bioactive glass (BG) a new composition. BG samples were prepared and synthesized with the sol-gel method and evaluated the elemental, structural and thermal characteristics of these glasses. According to DTA analysis, B, Mg and V doping had a significant effect on all characteristic temperatures of BGs. For the purpose of in vitro bioactivity assessment of BGs, SEM, FTIR, and XRD analysis were performed and ion release behavior (ICP-OES) of BGs was examined after immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF). As a result, both undoped and B, Mg and V doped BG showed in vitro bioactivity behavior. In vitro antibacterial test result of BGs against S. aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa strains, a decrease in the number of colonies was observed at a concentration of 50 mg compared to the control group. Cell viability tests were performed at different concentrations (10 mg/ml, 5 mg/ml, 2.5 mg/ml and 1.25 mg/ml) to evaluate the in vitro cytotoxicity of BGs. High cell viability (%) values were observed at low BG concentrations in the result of cytotoxicity studies. Overall, it is anticipated that BG doped with B, Mg and V may serve as promising candidates for bone and soft tissue applications.
