Description
This study investigated the design and performance of dry-type transformers under various average maximum ambient temperatures. The IEC 60076-11 standard was used to model three transformers with different ambient temperatures. Each transformer had the same primary and secondary voltage levels and a power capacity of 2000 kVA. The aim of the study was to determine the effects of changes in ambient temperature on transformer design and to highlight the structural and design differences that occur as a result of temperature variations. Three different transformer models, designed with the same power, voltage, and insulation class (for ambient temperatures of +40 degrees C, +50 degrees C, and +60 degrees C), were compared, and the effects of increasing ambient temperature on the design parameters were investigated. Based on the results obtained, the changes in weight, cost, and loss values of the transformers were analyzed in detail. The study shows important results about how changing ambient temperatures affect the design of dry-type transformers. It also lists the design factors that should be taken into account for managing the performance of these devices effectively in engineering settings.
