Description

Barium tetraborate (BaB4O7) is an inorganic compound known for its interesting properties and applications, particularly in the field of luminescent materials and dosimetry. When specific impurities, like rare earth ions, are added to BaB4O7, the material can emit light when heated after being exposed to radiation. This characteristic makes it valuable for dosimetry, which involves measuring the amount of absorbed radiation. In this study, the detail investigation about thermoluminescence (TL) behaviour of BaB4O7:Dy polycrystalline with cerium doping was carried out. The dysprosium concentration added to BaB4O7 was kept constant at 5%, while the cerium concentration was varied at 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%, and TL glow curves were obtained. Doping of cerium changes the shape of the TL glow curve of the BaB4O7:Dy. The optimal TL glow curve was obtained with a 5% cerium doping and a good dosimetric TL peak is appeared at 213 degrees C. Based on these results, TL properties were examined by conducting dose-response, heating rate, reusability, and fading experiments on the sample with a 5% cerium concentration. According to main results, 5% Ce doped BaB4O7:Dy3+ can be shown as a candidate radiation dosimeter with a clear and sharp dosimetric peak around 200 degrees C, a wide linear dose-response range between 0.6 Gy and 1 kGy, good reusability and no significant loss of TL signal due to ambient conditions.
