Erzurum Provincial Center Drinking Water Network System and Cost Benefit Analysis
Description
This study examines the drinking water network system in the central district of Erzurum. The drinking water requirement of the provincial center was calculated and compared with the current amount of drinking water used, and the water loss rate was calculated. Investigations conducted in some neighborhoods identified different problems in different areas. At the same time, cost comparisons were made between the profit obtained from the reduction in operating costs due to the reduction in the water loss rate in the drinking water network system and the cost of a sample network renovation project to be carried out in a selected neighborhood in the city center. Due to the decrease in the water loss rate in the drinking water used, the amount of treated water will decrease, resulting in a reduction in the amount of chemicals used. As a result, an average annual savings of 9,700,000 TL was achieved in chemical expenses. The approximate cost of the sample network renovation project was calculated to be approximately 5,200,000 TL. Based on the calculations, when comparing the daily amount saved due to the decrease in drinking water usage with a drinking water network renewal project of 5,800 meters, as in the example project, it was determined that the profit from 196 days is equal to the cost of the example project. When the daily savings are calculated on an annual basis, it is seen that they correspond to an average annual cost of 10,600 meters of network renovation.
