Dual-Band and Dual-Polarized Antenna System Design for Ka-Band Applications
Description
This study presents a dual-band dual-circular polarization feed chain for Ka-band applications such as satellite communication systems. The proposed feed chain consists of a Tx-Rx corrugated antenna, iris polarizer, rectangular-to-square transition, and square-to- circular transition. The design operates within the Ka-band; 17.7-21.2 GHz with 18% bandwidth for Tx and 27.5-31 GHz with 12% bandwidth for Rx. The simulations are performed with CST Studio Suite. The insertion loss of the iris polarizer part is <0.05 dB, the return loss is >23 dB, and the variation is less than 15 degrees around 90 degrees for both bands. The return loss of the whole structure is >20 dB. The directivity of the feed chain is between 17-23 dBi.
