Description

Metamaterials offer extraordinary properties with prominent applications in various areas such as sensing, imaging, spectroscopy, or telecommunication. Metamaterials efficiency is very important in its electromagnetic response and is associated with the radiative and ohmic losses. In the case of plasmonic metamaterials, the non-radiative losses can be reduced by using highly conductive metal. However, there is a limit, especially in THz and optical frequencies. Thus, radiative losses play a more significant role in controlling the efficiency of the metamaterial. Here, we use Fano resonance to enhance the efficiency of a cross-resonator THz metamaterial. We use numerical and experimental methods to develop the design. Our results show a significant enhancement in the Q-factor of the metamaterial.
