Alternative Materials for TEMPEST Facility Architectural Shielding

  • 1. TUBITAK BILGEM, TEMPEST Test & Evaluat Lab, Gebze, Turkiye

Description

Shielding is a fundamental aspect of TEMPEST precautions, preventing the interception of classified information within a defined zone. While existing literature analyzes shielding materials and their effectiveness for various purposes, a noticeable gap exists in papers addressing materials specifically for TEMPEST facility shielding. This paper explores commercially available shielding materials as alternatives for TEMPEST facility architectural shielding. The shielding effectiveness (SE) comparison is given for shielding window film, shielding paint, wire-mesh, and shielding fabric. Conducted in an anechoic chamber frequency range of 10 MHz to 6 GHz, the results demonstrate the utility of these materials in enhancing TEMPEST facility shielding, offering alternatives to traditional metal plates. This paper brings diverse perspectives on the implementation of shielding as a precaution, especially in TEMPEST-protected facilities.
