A new weevil genus,<i> Capelarinus</i> gen. nov., with four new species from Cape Province, South Africa (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Lixinae)

Description

A new weevil genus Capelarinus Gultekin & Lyal gen. nov. in the tribe Lixini (Curculionidae: Lixinae; Lixini) and four new species Capelarinus korotyaevi Gultekin & Lyal sp. nov., Capelarinus klassi Gultekin & Lyal sp. nov., Capelarinus colonnellii Gultekin & Lyal sp. nov. and Capelarinus marshalli Gultekin & Lyal sp. nov., are described from the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces, South Africa. The lectotype of Larinus lineatus Gyllenhal, 1835 is designated and the species is designated as type species of Capelarinus as Capelarinus lineatus (Gyllenhal) comb. nov. A key to the species and images showing distinctive morphological characters are presented. The only known host plant association is Cullumia reticulata (L.) Greuter, M.V. Agab. & Wagenitz (Asteraceae) which is an endemic South African plant and on the country's red list.
