Investigation of Capacitive Current Based False Trips in Radial Distribution Networks

In this study, a 62-bus sample distribution system is modelled in accordancewith its parameters with the help of EMTP (Electro Magnetic Transient Program).The performances of non-directional and directional earth fault relays during SPEFwere investigated in the time domain. Two different scenarios are determined for the62-bus system. In the first scenario, the system is fully equipped with overhead lines.In the second scenario, the system is fully equipped with underground cables. Thus,the protection settings for the sample network are detailed according to the non-directional and directional earth fault relays situation of the sympathetic trippingproblem, which is inevitable in the cable-dense network.
