Revealing Co-60 Gamma Peaks by Multi-Pixel Photon Counter

  • 1. Izmir Tinaztepe Univ, Vocat Sch Hlth Serv, Med Imaging Tech Dept, TR-35400 Izmir, Turkey

Description

Since Co-60 gamma peaks in the gamma energy spectrum were not revealed in the electronic noise by the Multi-Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC), an experimental setup was proposed to reduce the noise, and to unveil the peaks and the gamma spectrum. For this purpose, constant fraction timing discrimination method was utilized. The timing signals were coincidentally gated in the multichannel analyzer with the signals directly from the MPPC. Obtained result spectrum showed that the asserted setup was quite successful in reducing the noise components, and in obtaining the neat gamma peaks of the radioisotope through the MPPC.
