Description
Maximum swimming speed of red mullet (Mullus barbatus) and annular sea bream (Diplodus annularis) was estimated based on muscle twitch experiments. The maximum estimated speed of red mullet (mean length: 16.9 cm) was 3.14 m/s (18.6 bl/s) at 26 degrees C. At 20 degrees C the maximum estimated speed of annular sea bream (mean length: 11.5 cm) was 1.92 m/s (16.7 bl/s). Maximum swimming speed of annular sea bream decreased as the temperature decreased.
