ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TURKISH AGRICULTURE

Description

This study considers the crop production and economic implications of projected climate change on Turkish agricultural sector. The analysis is carried out using a paired biophysical and economic analysis focusing on five major crops in Turkey including, wheat, barley, corn, sunflower, and cotton. Results show that under climate change, crop yield changes are negatively affected by 3.8 to 10.1%. Economically total welfare decreases with producers welfare increasing and consumers being the losers. The total annual economic loss is $0.1 million, with producers gaining $0.1 million and consumers losing $0.2 million.
