Description

In this study, cyclic oxidation behavior of cold-pressed TiB2 pellets was investigated. Oxidation tests were conducted at temperatures between 800 and 1200 degrees C for 5, 10, 15, and 20 h. XRD analyses indicated that TiO2 and B2O3 phases were formed as oxidation products. It was observed that cyclic oxidation behaviors of the samples depended on temperature and time. Based on the analysis results and the microstructure observations, volatilization of B2O3 had significant effect on the oxidation of the samples as the temperature increased. When compared to the literature, samples had higher oxidation rates due to their porosities.
