POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC-COMPOUNDS DETECTED IN PYROLYSIS RESIDUES OF SEYITOMER OIL-SHALE AND LIGNITE

Description

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) present in pyrolysis residues of Seyitomer oil shale are investigated . Residues were obtained from self generated atmosphere, nitrogen and steam sweep pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis with Seyitomer lignite. The PAH determined were compared with those detected in Seyitomer oil shale and Seyitomer lignite bitumen alone. The residues and original solid samples were Soxhlet extracted using 3:1 ratio of benzene and methanol. Extracts were analyzed using capillary column gas chromatography. The peaks are identified using internal standards and retention indices reported in literature. Over 110 PAH compounds were identified in the pyrolysis residues. The change in the content of aromatic compounds was found to be strongly dependent on the different process conditions used in this study.
