Evaluation of the performance of a rotary dryer

The design parameters and operation conditions of the borax pentahydrate dryer wed in Kirka Boron Derivatives Plant have been evaluated by using the results of laboratory dudes on drying rate of borax pentahydrate and mass and energy flow simulations developed for rotary dryers. it was found that the dryer has been designed appropriately but operating conditions were not suitable to obtain the desired product. The residence time and product moisture content were calculated by using developed model and found to be very dose to the actual plant values. Optimum working conditions for dryer and related units were also calculated by using METSIM simulation package.
