Application of the novel technique for calibration of 23-sided polygon angles with non-integer subdivision of indexing table

   Yandayan, T

Polygons are basic angle standards for calibration of indexing tables and for measuring equipment such as dividing heads, positioning and rotary tables. It is required to calibrate such angle standards in order to assure traceability and at the highest accuracy it is a responsibility of national metrology institutes. A novel technique based on the circle closure principle was developed in UME (The National Metrology Institute of Turkey) and detailed description of the technique for 7-sided polygon with international comparison measurement results are given elsewhere by T. Yandayan et a/. [1]. This paper describes the application of the new method for calibration of 23-sided polygon with an uncertainty of about 0.25". The method is of use for laboratories which do not have a high-resolution precise angle comparator or two autocollimators for the calibration of such angle standards.
