NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF FORMATION OF STEEL LINERED SHAPED CHARGE JETS

   Yavuz, M. S.; Yildirim, R. O.

In this work, a parametric study is carried out to investigate characteristic variables defining a sphere like shaped charge, and their effects on the shaped charge jet formation. Steel is chosen as the shaped charge liner material. The parameters varied are radius of curvature and the thickness of the liner, head height and casing thickness. Numerical studies are carried out using AUTODYN hydrocode and Taylor impact testing method is implemented for acquiring the Johnson Cook strength model parameters. Optimization techniques are implemented in order to minimize the number of simulations intending to understand the effect of every single variable and their coupled effects. A neural network model is created predicting the jet tip velocities of a shaped charge as a result of this study.
