In this study, the effects of different fiber type reinforcement on the properties of Poly(lactic acid)/Polycarbonate (PLA/PC) composites were investigated. PLA/PC blend was used as the control sample and its properties were compared with PLA/PC based composites. Glass fiber (GF), unsized carbon fiber (CF) and sized carbon fiber (with polyurethane) (PuCF) was used as fiber reinforcement. The fiber loading level was used as 5 and 10 wt.% for prepared composites. PLA/PC composites were produced by using extrusion and injection molding techniques. The thermal, mechanical, morphological and flammability properties were examined for the composites. According to tensile test results, increasing fiber loading level enhanced to the tensile strength values. Higher tensile strength value was observed for unsized carbon fiber reinforced PLA/PC composites among the 5 wt% fiber including composites. The maximum temperature at 50 wt% mass loss rate was determined for glass fiber reinforced PLA/PC composite as 359.7 degrees C. Besides, melting temperatures (T-m) values were not affected in DSC analysis by reinforcing different type's fibers. In addition to this, using CF decreased the LOI value of the composites. 5 wt% GF addition was not significantly altered the LOI value of the PLA/PC blend.
