A fault tolerant CORBA based infrastructure (CORBIS) for C4I systems

In this paper, we present our experience in designing and partial (proof of concepts level) implementation of a fault-tolerant, reliable, platform and operating system independent, distributed, and non-proprietary program development environment for C4I systems. We explain the general structure of proposed software architecture for this domain and present the details of the CORBA based infrastructure (CORBIS) layer, emphasizing on its fault-tolerant feature. Although CORBA and its implementations offer an environment, platform and operating system independent and non-proprietary software architecture for large scale system, there are still some important missing issues such as reliability, fault-tolerance and real-time/fast enough QoS behavior of the system.
