Description

In the framework of a revision of Turkish Dianthus, specimens collected from Kzlda (Derebucak, Konya) are described as a new species. The new species is named as Dianthus serpentinus Hamzaolu sp. nov., and a description, images, chorology and ecology, and threat category are given. It is compared with the closely related D. acrochlorus, based on its general morphology and seed micromorphology. In addition, the phylogenetic relationship among the closely related species, some Dianthus species belonging to section Dentati from Turkey, D. serpentinus and 14 additional Dianthus species obtained from GenBank are investigated based on DNA sequence data from the nuclear ribosomal internally transcribed spacer region. The results obtained from the molecular analyses supports the morphological data.
