  "description": "<p>Drought is a detrimental natural disaster that affects a wide range of areas including social and ecological aspects of life. Under the escalating influence of climate change, the impact on drought becomes more pronounced. Therefore, accurate and reliable drought monitoring becomes increasingly crucial to effective drought mitigation strategies. The objective of this study is to analyze hydrological drought characteristics in the Coruh River Basin, situated in the northeastern region of Turkey. A total of 8 hydrological stations were strategically chosen across the expanse of the Coruh River Basin. Monthly streamflow data spanning the years 1989 to 2011 were collected from these specified stations. Since the calculation of Standardized Streamflow Index requires continous series, regression analyses were conducted to address missing data within these hydrological stations. Both parametric and empirical SSFI were then calculated for 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month and 12-month time scales. Following the calculation of the SSFI, the probabilities of occurrence for dry periods were determined for each station. Dry periods were identified using the Standardized Streamflow Index classification. Subsequently, an assessment using Mann-Kendall trend test was&nbsp; conducted on the SSFI values to ascertain the presence and the direction of any discernible trends.</p>",
